UT to hold State Youth Parliament on Feb 5

To document its opinions on vision of New India in 2022, Chandigarh is all set to hold a State Youth Parliament under the Government of India initiative on February 5.

Persons in the age group of 18 and 25 years (as on June 30, 2018) are eligible to participate in the Youth Parliament. The individuals need not necessarily be a student of an educational institution to participate in the sessions.

The sessions will be conducted at three levels. The District Youth Parliament (DYP) will be conducted at the district level on January 25. Preliminary rounds of screening will be conducted to select youth for participation in the DYP. The youth will be shortlisted through two screening processes — digital and walk-in. 

The selected youth will then participate in the State Youth Parliament (SYP). Similarly, the youth selected by a jury from the SYP will participate in the National Youth Parliament (NYP).

Discussions will be held on the topics: Swachhta & Give It Up (LPG): Inspiring attitudinal change, Ayushman Bharat: Revolutionising the health sector, Reducing Poverty through Financial Inclusion Programmes — Jan Dhan & Mudra Yojana and ‘Beej Se Baazar Tak’ and ‘Lab to land’: Doubling farmers income for digital screening. The topics for walk-in screening, DYP, SYP and NYP will be intimated later. 

The youth can participate in Hindi, English or the official language of the state government concerned.

A panel of jury will judge the youth on the basis of articulation, clarity of thought, content knowledge and demeanour. The jury will comprise parliamentarian/MLA/eminent political leader, retired/serving officers, including uniformed service officers, eminent artist /social personality, eminent journalist/writer and educationist.

The DYP will take place at the Government College for Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50. The venue for the SYP will be decided later.
