The state government is considering raising the special grant for unanimously elected panchayats from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Minister for Cooperation and Jails, said this while addressing newly elected sarpanches and panches of Patti area at a function in the district’s Thathian Mahatan village today.

The minister advised the sarpanches and panches to be unbiased while carrying out development works in their villages.

Hitting out at the Opposition, Randhawa said the “wrong policies” of the SAD during its ten-year rule had ruined the party, while AAP had become a divided house.

The minister announced a grant of Rs20 lakh for development works in Dadehar Sahib, the village related to Ghadarite Baba Visakha Singh, and assured the panchayat of releasing Rs10 lakh more in April.
