New Delhi, September 11

In a “historic moment” in judiciary, a Delhi court today recorded the statement of Unnao rape survivor at an “extra-ordinary” temporary court set up at AIIMS in a case of alleged sexual assault by expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017.

The rape survivor deposed before District Judge Dharmesh Sharma during ‘in-camera’ proceedings at the trauma centre, where she identified the two accused, said her lawyer. Sengar and co-accused were brought to the hospital amid tight security from Tihar jail.

The rape survivor was admitted to the hospital following an accident on July 28. The temporary court was set up at the hospital with the Delhi High Court’s permission after the doctors attending to the woman said it was “not advisable” to bring her to the court premises.

The rape survivor will be cross-examined on Thursday at AIIMS. — PTI
