Unnao rape survivor hurt in mishap, critical

LUCKNOW: The Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer were seriously injured, while her mother and paternal aunt died when a truck hit their car head-on in Rae Bareli today.

The Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer were seriously injured, while her mother and paternal aunt died when a truck hit their car head-on in Rae Bareli today. The injured have been admitted to the King George Medical University’s Trauma Centre.

The incident occurred at a crossing under the Gurbakhshganj police station. The four were going to meet the rape survivor’s uncle who is lodged in Rae Bareli jail. The accident was so severe that the front portion of the car got completely smashed. Sources at the hospital described the condition of both injured as very serious.

The rape survivor had charged Unnao MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his associates of gang-raping her and also being instrumental in the custodial death of her father. Reacting to her mother’s affidavit, the Allahabad High Court handed over the case to the CBI on April 12, 2018, following which the MLA, his brother and other associates had been arrested.
