Chandigarh, September 22

United Punjab Football Club registered a 3-0 win over Cordia South Hall, Fatehgarh Sahib, in the 17th Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India U-14 Football Tournament at the Sector 46 Sports Complex here today.

After an initial struggle, the United Punjab Football Club lads scored the opening goal in the 31st minute. Letgougin Thothany’s power-packed shot easily beat the goalkeeper. Just two minutes later, Pookhon Thong Thothoy doubled the lead with a help of a long ranger. In the second half, the United Punjab Football Club strikers tried hard to increase the lead but a fine performance by Cordia’s goalkeeper kept them at bay. In the 72nd minute, though, KH Sameer Alom found the third goal.

In the second match, Sudeva Football Club (New Delhi) defeated Shreenidhi Football Club (Telangana) 3-0 at the Sector 7 Sports Complex. The New Delhi outfit took the lead after Lakshram Rahul scored in the 8th minute. Telangana managed to improve their defence but conceded a penalty towards the end of the first half. Rahul successfully converted the spot-kick to give a comfortable 2-0 lead to the New Delhi team. After the 10-minute breather, Arjun Singh Rawat netted the third goal of the match in the 67th minute to seal a comfortable win for the side.

Meanwhile, two teams were debarred from the tournament after more than three of their players were found overage during the age-verification test by the panel of doctors.

The tournament was inaugurated by KK Yadav (Secretary Sports). Tejdeep Singh Saini (Director Sports), Dr Mahender Singh (Joint Director Sports), Ravinder Singh (District Sports Officer) and Ward Councilor Maheshinder Sidhu were also present at the venue.
