Taking advantage of a huge rush, a jail inmate tried to flee from the court premises after the hearing here on Friday. He was nabbed from Gate No. 1 of the court complex.

ASI Palwinder Singh of the Peshi Cell lodged a complaint with the police that registered a fresh case under Sections 224 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code against him. He said the undertrial, Vishal Dutt of Mandir Wala Bazaar in Verka, was arrested by the police in a theft and drug case.

On Friday, he was brought to the court complex for a hearing in the case. ASI Palwinder Singh said when he was being taken towards the bus after the hearing, he managed to free his hands from the handcuffs and slipped away.

Immediately, an alert was sounded and he was arrested from Gate No. 1 of the court complex. He was again taken to the jail.
