Unanimous choice for 138 panchayats in Nawanshahr

Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, is among the 138 panchayats elected unanimously during the current panchayat elections in Nawanshahr.

Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani said the number of panchayats elected unanimously during the previous polls were 81 and this time, the increase in the number shows the concern of villagers to maintain unity and brotherhood in their villages.

Apart from that, four more villages have shown interest in getting the candidates elected unopposed but due to technical problems in the nomination papers of the panches, they could not succeed in getting the tag of being completely unanimous.

Giving blockwise details of the unanimously elected panchayats, he said in Block Aur, the gram panchayats of Jagatpur, Baghoran, Rehpa, Ferozpur, Herian, Sukar,Bajjon, Mai Ditta, Mallah Bedian, Buhara, Garhi Bharti, Mahal Khurd, Malpur, Barnala Khurd, Julah Mazara, Kharkuwal, Ratnana and Tajpur were declared unopposed while Lalewal lacks behind due to one vacant position of panch.

In Balachaur block, Bholewal, Majara Bet, Nangal, Paniali Kalan, Jiowal, Rattewal Khurd, Purana Pind Rattewal, New Thopia, Udhanwal, Mohar, Nighi Khurd, Mohan Majra, Behrhi, Gullu Majara, Surapur, Jandi, Takarla Uprali Patti, Balowal Saunkharhi, Patti Saunkharhi, Kheerewal, Nawan Pind, Tapparian, Aakliana, Kathgarh Khurd, Bagowal, Subhowal, Mehmoodpur Gadarian, Auliapur, Nawan Pind, Rurki Khurd, Kullewal, Thathiala Dhahan, Majhot, Boongri, Jitpur, Raju Majara, Haidon Bet, Rakran Bet, New Colony Rakran Bet, Lohat, Khoja Bet, Nanowal Mand, Boothgarh, Mutton, Mutton Mand, Hasanpur Kalan, Kuhar, Dubhali, Bir Kathgarh, Kamalpur, Makkowal and Pragpur gram panchayts were elected unanimously while Khanpur Kulewal, Lalpur and Mander could not succeed due to the vacant post of a panch lying in Khanpur and Lalpur each while two are there in Mander.

The ancestral village of Bhagat Singh, Khatkar Kalan, that falls in Banga block, is among the gram panchayats of Nagra, Sandhwan, Pharala, Bahua, Kultham, Sarhala Ranua, Mangat Dingrian, Dingrian, Gadani, Khanpur, Bahrowal, Gujarpur Khurd, Jindowal and Musapur villages that have unanimously elected their panchayats.

In Nawanshahr block, the residents of villages Alachaur, Malpur Arkan, Palli Jhikki, Bhagoran, Barnala Kalan, Bhan Majara, Birowal, Majara Khurd, Nai Majara, Ramgarh, Sajjawalpur, Utaal, Amargarh, Dharamkot, Chhokran, Gohlron, Pallian Kalan, Pallian Khurd, Bagh, Chahar Mazara, Ranewal, Attari, Mehadipur Kalan, Malikpur, Shamaspur, Tajowal, Behloor Kalan, Dilawarpur, Saidpur Kalan, Shekhan Mazara and Naura have preferred to elect their gram panchayats unopposed.

The Saroya block of Balachaur sub-division also has gram panchayats of Tihra, Majara, Khurdan, Baggual, Bhannu, Tapprian Ranewal, Begampur, Aiman, Hiatpur Jattan, Hiatpur Singhan, Patti Raurhi, Katwara Khurd, Dharampur, Boothgarh, Katwara Kalan, Nanowal, Jhandupur, Kukar Sooha, Mangupur, Atal Majara, New Chuhrpur, New Malewal, Kaulgarh and Khandupur elected unopposed.

Bublani said that following the unopposed elections in the above said villages, 324 out of a total of 466 panchayats would to polls on December 30.
