The aspirants of University Grants Commission (UGC)-National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) were today left high and dry as the examination centre was located in a private educational institute in a remote village having poor road connectivity, nearly 8 km from Kumarhatti.
The exam scheduled from December 2 to 6 for various subjects was supposed to be conducted in cities to facilitate the aspirants. With no bus service available on the route, the aspirants, a majority of whom comprise students, had to spend heavily for arranging taxis for reaching exam centres.
Ruing poor choice of location of the examination centre, Rakesh Kumar, an aspirant, said it was deplorable to note that a remote village had been chosen as an examination centre. The district headquarters of Solan could have been a convenient option.
He questioned the rationale of holding a national-level exam in a rural area having poor road connectivity and said that it was a reflection on the state government which has failed to repair a road leading to an educational institute where hundreds of students study.
With the road connecting the examination centre from the highway yet to be concretized, its poor condition and potholes left those commuting by their own vehicles hassled.
Jyoti, another aspirant, said it is lamentable that the government conducted a national-level exam at a village having no public transport facility and worn out road.
