Two held for Ludhiana gangrape, 4 on the run

Ludhiana, February 12 

Two days after the Ludhiana gangrape came to light, the Jagraon police on Tuesday arrested Sadik Ali of Raap village near Mukandpur in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district and Jagroop Singh of Jaspal Bangar near Ludhiana. Their four accomplices, Ajay Kumar from UP, Saif Ali of Tibba in Ludhiana, Surmo of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and his relative, are yet to be traced.

  All suspects are in the 25-30 age group. “Ali has confessed to the crime. His accomplices will be arrested soon”, said Jagroan SSP Varinder Singh Brar. The police have released the sketches of all suspects.

Late Saturday night, a 21-year-old college girl and her male friend, travelling in a car, were stopped by three bike-borne youths near Issewal village, 9 km from Ludhiana. Joined by their accomplices, they dragged the girl to a nearby vacant plot and raped her, confining her friend in the car. They let off the two past midnight.

The SAD held a protest march at Bharat Nagar Chowk, Ludhiana, led by  Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Ranjit Singh Dhillon.
