The government primary schools in Naura and Gosal, in Nawanshahr district, have undergone a drastic change under ‘Parho Punjab Parhao Punjab’ project. Both schools have classrooms decorated with art and craft work, with poems, educative information, along with neat and clean playgrounds and clean toilets.

Head teacher, Mandip Kaur and Elementary Teacher Training (ETT) Kamalpreet Kaur, Government Primary School, Gosal, have mobilised community support as well as financial assistance from village panchayats, NRIs and philanthropists. A classroom in the school has been converted into the first-of-its-kind ‘Khed Mahal’ for pre-primary students.

Donation to the tune of Rs 5 lakh has been mobilised from the panchayat, and UK-based NRIs for the development of infrastructure.

A teacher at Government Primary School, Naura, said: “NRI’s looking around the development in schools have been motivated to make donations to schools. Benches, LED’s, and other necessary items were donated by the NRI’s belonging to the region.”  chools have set an example of changing the face of government schools in the state, and motivating other teachers to work for the cause and revamp government schools.

“A door-to-door campaign with the community support has been launched for increasing enrolment at the schools,” said the teachers. The parents were made aware of the infrastructure facilities and ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ project, and the benefits of various welfare schemes for the students.  Over 70 students are studying at Government Primary School at Gosal and pre-primary class has over 25 students.

The head teacher said the school had achieved A grade and was placed among the top 20 schools of the district.
