Two detained with foreign currency at IGI Airport

NEW DELHI:A sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) during a pre-embarkation security check (PESC) at the security hold area (SHA) of Terminal-3, IGI Airport, noticed an image of currency notes inside a hand bag of a woman passenger.

A sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) during a pre-embarkation security check (PESC) at the security hold area (SHA) of Terminal-3, IGI Airport, noticed an image of currency notes inside a hand bag of a woman passenger. She was later identified as Shakuntala Rani Verma (67) (Indian), bound for Dubai by the Emirates flight.

On checking the bag, high volume of foreign currency in denomination of US$-29,800, Dirhams-19,540, Euros-30,000 and INR-2,800 was found. On questioning, the woman passenger said she was accompanied by co-passenger Raj Kumar Verma, (Indian) and a minor boy.Verma’s bag was also screened and 40,350 Euros  and  57,500-UAE Dirhams were recovered from him. They  were handed over to the customs officials. —TNS
