Ludhiana, October 19

The fourth edition of the Ludhiana Short Film Festival is all set to be organised in the city on December 8 and December 9. It has become the only film festival in the state to sustain for four years.

Last year, a number of short films from different parts of the country and abroad were screened during the festival organised by Our Space Cinema. The last date for submission of films for the festival is October 31 without any fee.

Filmmakers from the state say it is becoming a good platform to screen films. “It is good that the Ludhiana Short Film Festival is emerging as a good platform for short-films,” Sourav Joshi from Pathankot, who is director of Punjabi short film Chitta 2, said, “More film festivals see gathering of film critics and cinema lovers alike, who help improve the quality as they offer a place to critique the films,” he said.

“Short film festivals, including the ones in Ludhiana, Dharamsala, Goa, help fuel creativity,” he said. “The craze for short-films is because of the power of Internet and smart phones,” he said.

“Nobody wants to spend three hours to watch films. This is the reason why even big directors are now focusing on web series,” Joshi says. “The talent had always been there, but now it is easier to make films with latest technology. Short film festivals give recognition to that creativity and art,” he said.
