Barnala, December 7
Two Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) of the Punjab Police were killed on the spot and two other ASIs were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck from behind due to dense fog in Handiaya town of Barnala district on Friday.
The injured were taken to a Bathinda hospital and the police have registered a case against truck driver Ankush.
The incident took place when four ASIs — Malkiat Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Sadhu Singh and Rachpal Singh — were going to Patiala from Muktsar for duty in a car.
When they reached Handiaya on the Bathinda-Barnala road, a truck moving in front of them suddenly applied brakes and the car collided with the truck.
The deceased have been identified as Malkiat Singh and Gurmeet Singh, while Sadhu Singh and Rachpal Singh suffered serious injuries. Both were first taken to the Barnala Civil Hospital, but later they were referred to the Bathinda hospital.
“We have registered a case against truck driver Ankush under Section 304-A of the IPC and conducting raids to arrest him,” said the SHO.
