Amritsar, February 11

Ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to the holy city this month, the Khalra Mission Organisation has sought his intervention in sending a parliamentarian delegation to inquire about the military attack on the Golden Temple in 1984 and human rights violation in Punjab.

Leaders of the organisation, including Paramjit Kaur Khalra and Kirpal Singh Randhawa, said, “Canada has an impressive history of preserving human rights. The rights of Sikhs were violated and subjected to genocide. Kindly use your power and send a parliamentarian delegation to Punjab.”

They offered their view that the Canadian parliamentarian delegation could probe the attack on the Golden Temple in June 1984, “fake” encounters in Punjab, Sikh detainees languishing in jails even after the completion of their sentences, “false” arrest of Jaggi Johal, etc.

Jaswant Singh Khalra, a Sikh activist, claimed that those youths who went missing were eventually murdered in fake encounters.

Members of the organisation said a thorough probe into the entire episode should be carried out.
