Trader gets 3-month jail for defaulting on income tax

BATHINDA: The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gurmeet Singh Tiwana sentenced Sunil Kumar Bansal, who is the owner of Bhavishya Nirman Company, to three-month imprisonment for defaulting on payment of income tax for around two years.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gurmeet Singh Tiwana sentenced Sunil Kumar Bansal, who is the owner of Bhavishya Nirman Company, to three-month imprisonment for defaulting on payment of income tax for around two years.

According to sources in the Income Tax Department, Bansal is a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar in Bathinda, who has been running a construction firm for a long time.

Sources added that Kumar had not paid income tax for the financial year 2009-2010. After the I-T Department found out that he had been defaulting on payment of income tax, they recovered an amount of Rs 3.50 lakh (outstanding income tax) after 22 months. — TNS
