Top officers attend course on polls

LUDHIANA:In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India, under the supervision of Additional Chief Election Officer (CEO), Punjab, Kavita Singh, is organising a two-day certification course for returning officers of parliamentary constituencies.

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India, under the supervision of Additional Chief Election Officer (CEO), Punjab, Kavita Singh, is organising a two-day certification course for returning officers of parliamentary constituencies. 

This course was organised at Bachat Bhawan here on Monday. On the first day, Deputy Commissioners and other senior officers were sensitised to necessary preparations to be made and ways in which free and fair elections are to be conducted.

Several presentations on various topics related to the elections were presented by senior government officers.

On the first day, Mansa DC Apneet Riyait gave a presentation on ‘Role and responsibility as District Election Officer and Returning Officer’; Deputy Director (ULB)-cum-ERO 017 Amritsar Central constituency gave a presentation covering various aspects of electoral rolls and booth level plan of polling station; SBS Nagar ADC Amrit Singh on ‘Vulnerability mapping and deployment of security personnel, DEMP and constituency plan’; Gurdaspur ADC Subhash Chander on qualifications and disqualifications, nominations by candidates’ and ‘Scrutiny of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidature and allotment of symbols to contesting candidates and risk management’; Faridkot Regional Transport Authority Hardeep Singh on polling personnel/logistics/polling material, management/training management and Kapurthala ADC Rahul Chaba on Model Code of Conduct, election expenditure and monitoring.

During the course, Kavita Singh, Additional CEO, Punjab, urged all officers to ensure that the upcoming Lok Sabha elections were conducted in a free and fair manner.

Prominent among those who attended the certification course included Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal, Kapurthala DC Mohammad Tayyab, Jalandhar DC Varinder Kumar Sharma, Patiala DC Kumar Amit, Mansa DC Miss Apneet Riyait, Hoshiarpur DC Isha Kalia, Pathankot DC Rambir, Gurdaspur DC Vipul Ujjwal, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar DC Vinay Bublani, Rupnagar DC Sumit Jarangal, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar DC Gurpreet Kaur Sapra among others.
