The state government today began the exercise to “ádjust” a number of senior officers who were overlooked for the post of Director General of Police (DGP).

In a reshuffle, the senior officers have been adjusted with independent charges. Mohd Mustafa, who was the key contender for the DGP post, has been posted as DGP, Punjab State Human Rights Commission.

For the first time, a woman police officer, ADGP Gurpreet Deo, will lead the state’s fight against drugs. She has been posted as head of the Special Task Force in place of Mohd Mustafa.

Hardeep Singh Dhillon, who was another contender for the DGP post, has been posted as chairman, Punjab Police Housing Corporation. Jasminder Singh, who is also senior to new DGP Dinkar Gupta, has been posted as DGP, Railways, with independent charge (directly reporting to ACS Home).

MK Tiwari, who was empanelled for the DGP post along with Dinkar Gupta, has been posted as DGP-cum-MD, Punjab Police Housing Corporation.

VK Bhawra would be DGP Intelligence and IPS Sahota has been shifted as ADGP, PAP Jalandhar. Kuldeep Singh has been posted as ADGP IT&T. Jatinder Singh Aulakh has been posted as IG Intelligence, besides his present charge of IG headquarters and Hardial Singh Mann posted as DIG Intelligence.
