A 52-year-old woman was mauled by a tiger while she went to answer the nature’s call in the fields at Kundela village in Sawaimadhopur district on Saturday morning.

The village lies in the periphery of the Ranthambhore National Park.

Munni Devi’s family rushed to the spot after hearing her cries when the tiger attacked her around 5.30 am but could not save her, DSP Krishna Sanwaria said.

The tiger tried to drag her body into the forest but after the villagers reached there it left the place. Police recovered three parts of her body.

The body was later sent for postmortem.

After the villagers protested against the frequent human-animal conflict in the region, the district collector announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin.

Forest experts were called to take footprints of the tiger.
