Chopal/Shimla, December 17

For months together, there have been no tehsildars in all three tehsils — Chopal, Nerwa, Kupvi — in the Chopal subdivision of the district. Residents make rounds of the tehsil headquarters, but go back home disappointed.

“We go back disappointed after we find no tehsildar in the office”, rued locals here.

The government has created three tehsils in Chopal subdivision, but it seems to have forgotten to appoint a tehsildar here”, they said at the sub-divisional headquarters in Chopal. They even narrated the problems they had been facing due to the non-availability of tehsildars.

“If one has to register their land, get registry, or attest some documents or get certificates under the Land Reforms Act, which is only done by the tehsildar, we are told that the post is vacant”, said GS Aukta, secretary of the Pensioners’ and Senior Residents’ Association, Chopal.

“We request the Chief Minister to direct the Revenue Department to fill all three posts of the tehsildar in Chopal subdivision to give relief to the people”, added other members of the association.

Some of the matters related to revenue are being dealt with by the naib tehsildar at all three tehsils to tide over the works. But the revenue cases and the matters of the Assistant Collector, which are only dealt with by the tehsildar have piled up over the months, the insiders said.

Since the works and matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the tehsildar have come to a standstill in the subdivision, the Chopal Bar Association has also decided to pass a resolution demanding placement of three tehildars at all vacant posts in the subdivision.

The tehsil headquarters goes headless when the naib-tehsildar goes out on tour or on leave, rued locals. The government organises the Jan Manch every now and then, but people continue to suffer, the residents said.

Responding to queries, Subdivisional Magistrate Chopal, Mukesh Resapwal, said all three posts of tehsildar were vacant, but all three naib tehsildars were in place to deal with the works of the people. The powers of naib tehsildars were similar in many cases, he further said.
