Doraha, January 16
Those selling the banned plastic Chinese strings in the town are on the radar of the Doraha police, who are conducting regular raids to catch such people red-handed and book them for the offence.
The police, under SSP Khanna Dhruv Dahiya, DSP Rachpal Singh Dhindsa and SHO Hardeep Singh Cheema conducted raids at various shops in Doraha and recovered Chinese string from one Mintu Kumar.
“We have decided to act tough against traders and conduct raids to check the sale of plastic and Chinese strings. No seller shall be allowed to take law in his hands,” the SHO said.
The department seems to have gone a step further in assuring that the use of Chinese string was strictly prohibited in the town. Children caught using the string were let off with a warning, but their parents were later called to the police station and cautioned with strong words to forbid the use of the Chinese string. They were counselled by SHO Hardeep Singh as regards the deadly effects and the mortality it carried in its wake.
“We tried to make them realise that the use of the string can not only prove fatal for birds and animals around, but for their near and dear ones as well. No sport is bigger than life. The one which is hazardous should be stopped at all costs and none should be allowed to sell death in any case,” he said.
Appreciating the move, several residents including Sabu Sethi, Jandeep Kaushal, Arun Bector, Joginder Kirti, Harish Kapila, Ranjit Singh Tiwana and Rajinder Kapila have expressed satisfaction over the role of the police in nabbing offenders who lure innocent children towards the use of Chinese strings, which may prove to be injurious to humans as well as animals.
