Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia slammed a media publication for its "distasteful comments" about her weight.

Dhupia, who gave birth to a baby girl in November, criticised the publication for commenting on her “shocking weight gain post pregnancy”. The remarks came after the actress put up an appearance at a fashion event in Mumbai.

In a tweet she captioned, “Thank you, next!”, Dhupia said: “I don’t owe anyone an explanation because ‘fatshaming’ like this doesn’t bother me one bit. But I do want to address this as a larger problem because fatshaming needs to stop for EVERYONE and not just celebs”.

She requested everyone to be kinder to each other while passing such comments.

She addded, “As a new mom I want to be fit, healthy and energetic for my daughter. So I workout everyday, sometimes twice a day because for me... ‘Fitness’ is a priority and not ‘fitting into’ society’s standards regarding looks”.

Neha’s husband, Angad shared his views on twitter. He wrote: “Well done on the low blow @fashion_central this is the maximum mileage you will ever get. #hinakhurram a woman to fatshame another woman who has just delivered a baby throws a lot of light on your upbringing. Please get well soon. #improudofmywife @NehaDhupia”.

Dhupia is now back at work as a TV host and a judge.

B-town reacts

Several Bollywood celebrities came out in support of Dhupia.

Karan Johar: “Neha! You are an amazing Woman! You walk so many paths with humour...with intelligence and with abandon!  It’s never about losing weight it’s always about gaining perspective! And I hope the woman who wrote this has gained some today...”.

Sonam Kapoor: “You are beautiful no matter what anyone says”.

Malaika Arora Khan: “Yeah gurl”.

Shweta Bachchan: “Well said Neha! You look radiant and lovely, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise xxx”.

Dhupia married actor Angad Bedi in May 2018.
