Thieves strike at ATM booth, decamp with cash dispenser

Thieves struck at an ATM booth of Axis Bank near the grain market, Ambala City. They decamped with the cash dispenser of one of the two ATMs installed there.

The booth had ATMs and a cash depositing machine. After failing to break open the first machine, they targeted the second one, damaging its upper portion and decamping with the lower part that dispenses cash. They tied the cash dispenser with a Tavera car, managing to uproot the machine and took it away.

The incident took place at 2 am and the car might belong to Punjab. There were nearly Rs 1.98 lakh in cash in the machine.

After getting information, Ambala City SHO Ajit Singh and forensic expert GR Jain visited the spot. The SHO said, “They had sprayed paint on CCTV cameras and exact details about the stolen cash would be clear by Monday.”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Sultan Singh, said “A white Tavera is visible in a CCTV footage. Three persons are visible. Efforts are being made to obtain the CCTV footage of nearby areas. The suspects are yet to be identified.”

A case has been registered on the complaint of the bank branch manager under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC at the Ambala City police station.

This is the second such incident in the city since January. On January 8, some unidentified robbers had targeted an ATM of the SBI, using a gas cutter. They had decamped with Rs 19 lakh. The suspects are yet to be arrested.

In another incident an unidentified person on February 1 attempted to break open an ATM of Punjab and Sind Bank situated at Kesri village of Saha block in Ambala, however he had failed to open the ATM. — TNS
