Thieves decamped with gold and electronic items, including 3 mobile phones, 4 laptops, DSLR cameras, lenses and three branded watches from the house of Dhruv Majumdar, IT consultant of the Haryana Chief Minister, here on Saturday. He, along with his family members, had gone to Siliguri in West Bengal in connection with his marriage.

The thieves had entered the house from the drawing room. Later, they entered the room where an almirah was kept.

CCTV footage recovered from near Majumdar’s house revealed that three cars had passed through the area in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

The incident came to light when their maid came to the house this morning. She immediately informed the neighbours about the incident. They later told the police about the theft.

The police, along with forensic experts, reached the spot and took fingerprints samples of the miscreants from the house.

Anil Kohli, one of the neighbours, informed Dhruv’s father Debashish Majumdar, a member of the Haryana Regulatory Authority, about the theft. Debashish told the police that he was busy with his son’s marriage and would not be able to come. However, he provided the list of items kept in the house.

Arvind Kamboj, SHO of the Sector 5 police station, said the preliminary investigation revealed that the thieves had first consumed drinks in the kitchen as empty bottles were lying there. The thieves had thrown out clothes and other items from the almirah.

The SHO said: “We have registered a case against unidentified persons and collected the CCTV footage of the cameras installed in the neighbourhood. Investigations in the case are on. We hope to crack the case soon”.
