Jalandhar, December 12

As the wedding bells for comedian Kapil Sharma and his Jalandhar-based girlfriend Bhavneet Chatrath aka Ginni ring at Cabbana Resorts here on Wednesday evening, the groom is set to make a dramatic entry to the ‘pandal’.

Kapil will arrive at the resort around the afternoon. His ‘sehra bandi’ and other ceremonies will take place in one of the 20 rooms booked there. Reaching the resort, he will come riding on a mare and make an entry from a 200-foot-long tunnel into the ‘pandal’. Organisers said a tunnel had been dug up and already decorated along the pool side of the venue.

Directors Abbas-Mastan to be in attendance

Among the guests reaching the wedding is Bollywood director brothers Abbas and Mastan, who had directed Kapil Sharma-starrer movie ‘Kis kisko Pyar Karoon’. Though there had been reports of Sohail Khan reaching Jalandhar on Wednesday night, there is so far no confirmation of any other celebrity guest so far.

Since marriage of the daughter of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani is scheduled in Mumbai for Wednesday, most cine stars are expected to make it to Kapil’s reception in Mumbai later. Singer Gurdas Mann, however, will enthrall the guests on Wednesday night while Daler Mehndi will perform at the Amritsar reception on December 14.

Kapil’s friends from his comedy show--Sumona Chakravarti, Krushna Abhishek and Bharti Singh–reached Amritsar on Monday. They attended functions at his place for two days and are learnt to be rehearsing for their surprise dance and comic performances at the resort.

Pre-wedding events

Though pre-marriage functions started at the house of Ginni at Hardev Nagar here about a week back, Kapil arrived at his home at Amritsar on Monday. The same day, he organised ‘Mata ka Jagran’ at a hotel in Amritsar where the couple were seen sitting together. Singers Richa Sharma, Lakhwinder Wadali and Master Saleem performed at the jagran. On Tuesday night, a sangeet function was held in Amritsar.

Functions at Ginni’s family started about a week ago. They organised ‘akhand path; at their place, followed by a bangle ceremony, Jago and sangeet. The beautiful bride wore designer wears on all functions and looked stunning. All pictures that got flashed in the media from the pre-wedding ceremonies so far have come from family and social media sources.

Jalandhar-based salon owner Ritu Kolentine, who readied Ginni for pre-bridal functions, said, “Ginni took pre-bridal treatment from me. She has a healthy and flawless skin. So there was no need to conceal much. For Mata Ka Jagran, we gave Ginni subtle yet elegant makeup with soft curls while for Kapil’s sister Pooja we took a bun.” Kapil’s mother and other relatives also got their make-up from Kolentine.

Preparations for 1,000 guests

Cabana Resorts has made arrangement for some 1,000 guests for the wedding function. More than 250 bouncers, including 50 women, have been deployed at all venues to check entry of any uninvited guests. The guests will have to make an entry using a card bearing bar code at the security check.

Who is the bride?

Like Kapil, Ginni, too, has been fond of theatre. She had appeared with Kapil in a show ‘Hans Baliye’. The couple came to be acquainted to each other since Ginni was at HMV College here and Kapil used to come to help the teams with theatre performances during youth festival days.

Another common friend and an event manager from Jalandhar, Shaina Kochar, said, “Ginni was my junior at HMV College here. In those days, Kapil used to come and help us with theatrics. The love story somehow started thereafter.” Having studied at MGN School here, she had later pursued MBA in finance. Her father is a businessman.

This is an inter-faith alliance as Ginni hails from a Sikh family, but the marriage rituals will be performed as per Hindu tradition.

Food

A ‘jugalbandi’ between Indian and foreign chefs for preparing a variety of dishes of Indian and foreign origin started at the resort since Tuesday morning. Preparations for various counters and food spreads started. Conveyer belts for serving and rotating food and drinks were laid out. The food items will have several dishes from Japanese, Thai, Lebanese, Italian, Continental and European cuisines besides platters from Awadh, Kashmir, Hyderabad, Meerut and Mathura. There will be counters for French cafe, bakery items, dim sums, exotic fruits, besides a chaat street and two specially created restaurants with Hyderabadi and Continental food. A Mathura milk bar, Japanese and Thai live concept and Food on Wheels will be an added attraction.

Sources at Cabbana revealed that the variety in food is so vast that at least 25 desserts, 25 assorted breads and seven types of curd mixtures had been planned. Bacchus lovers, too, can expect a lot of fun with a Delhi-based company engaged to handle the drinks corner with alcohol to be served in ice glasses.
