Tension prevailed on Saturday evening when a police team from Jodhpur reached here to arrest a city jeweller for allegedly purchasing stolen gold and silver jewellery.

The Rajasthan police also brought a theft suspect along with them to the city. As the news of jeweller’s arrest spread, members of the Swarankar Sangh gathered at the Kotwali police station.

The members accused the Rajasthan police of falsely implicating the city jeweller. They said 15 days ago, a team of the Rajasthan police had seized the stolen jewellery. They said now, cops from other police station had come with a theft suspect to arrest the jeweller. They added that he had not purchased any stolen jewellery and the police were trying to implicate him in a false case.

The Jodhpur police had arrested a few members of a gang involved in staling cash and gold-silver jewellery from many places. According to information, the arrested suspects had told the police that they further sold the stolen jewellery to a jeweller in Bathinda.
