Teachers’ Union protests ‘wrongful’ suspension

Members of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union today wore black badges to work in protest against the attitude of the principal and management of a local college.

Earlier, the college had suspended two teachers for leaving station without any prior information of the authorities of college, and now three more teachers have been suspended for misconduct. In addition to this, nine teachers have been given termination notices.

A meeting of the union was held in this regard today. Braham Ved Sharma, state president of the union, addressed the meeting said the step taken by the principal was not in the right direction. The union demanded an inquiry into the setting up of the hospital and misuse of funds in the college premises.

Prof Kuldeep Kumar Batta said: “We have given time to the college management to take back the termination letters and in case they fail to do so, then we will take out a candle march from the college on Thursday evening. We will also submit a memorandum with the district administration reagrding the same. Teachers of the entire district have also decided to observe a strike for two periods on Friday and Saturday.”
