Amritsar, January 24

On a call given by the Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (PFUCTO), college teachers from Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur held a zonal rally here on Thursday.

Teachers from Guru Nanak Dev University also took part in the rally. The teachers demanded the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission.

Besides, they demanded regularisation of teachers’ services who have been working for more than three years in various colleges.

They also demanded that the teachers appointed in various universities and colleges be given full pay scales as per the UGC norms. Dr Davinder Singh, president, Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers’ Association, said, “Teachers play a key role in nation building and demands of teachers should be priority of the authorities.”

He said Haryana had already implemented the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. Dr BS Tohra, president, Government College Teachers’ Association, demanded that the vacant posts of lecturers in different colleges be filled at the earliest. — TNS
