Jalandhar, February 21

After the SSA/RMSA protests which marked transfers and FIRs against several teachers in the recent past, the state will face another major confrontation between the Education Department and agitating teachers tomorrow.

While in the city, the department had not intimated the police yet, it said immediate help would be sought if there was any disruption during the tests which will start tomorrow and continue for one week in which students from primary classes will appear.

Anticipating protests from the 1.5 lakh teachers’ strong Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee tomorrow, DEOs and BEOs across various districts in the state have been instructed to employ the help of the the police. While the post test or final test will be held for students across primary and upper primary schools from February 22 to March 11 in Jalandhar, over 56,000 students will be appearing for the test on these dates.

Meanwhile, Nishant, Kapurthala district president of the Adhyapak Sanghrash Committee said, “We have previously declared our stance against Parho Punjab Parhao project. It has been thrust against the teachers of the state and around 10,000 teachers will be disrupting all exams.”

DEO Elementary, Jalandhar, Rampal said, “It is a test which is going to take place over the period of over one week in which over 56,000 students from primary classes in the district alone shall be participating. We will not tolerate a disruption at any cost.”

“This is a test of the Math tables, their knowledge of the Punjabi language, a look into their understanding so far. If teachers are willing to disrupt it, we will certainly seek the help of the police,” he said.
