Teachers burn state govt’s effigy

Activists of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha on Tuesday staged a protest against the state government and burnt its effigy.

The morcha members submitted a memorandum of their demands to Deputy Commissioner KS Sangha. The protesters were demanding release of pending salaries of SSA and RMSA teachers, regularisation of their jobs, cancellation of transfers of teachers and revival of old pension scheme.

While raising their demands, union leaders Ashwani Awasthi, Baldev Raj, Arjinder Singh said, “The Education Minister arranges a meeting of leaders of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.” On January 19, a state-level convention would be held at Desh Bhagat Hall, Jalandhar, to further intensify their struggle.

Protest against Soni

Tarn Taran: Teachers under the banner of Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha protested against the government’s lackadaisical approach to concede their long pending demands here on Tuesday.

The protesting teachers burnt the effigy of Education Minister Om Parkash Soni and submitted a memorandum of their demands to Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal.

Union leaders Karaj Kairon and Nachhatar Singh said the Education Minister at a meeting with union leaders in Patiala had assured the acceptance of their demands but nothing had been done till date.

The leaders demanded regularisation of the services of 5,178 teachers, hike in the salary of education providers and other teachers.— OC
