Patiala, February 22

Hundreds of teachers, associated with Adhyapak Sangarsh Committee, on Friday held protests in various parts of the district against the deployment of police personnel on schools’ premises.

They carried out a protest march in Patiala, Nabha, and Samana and burnt an effigy of Education Secretary Krishan Kumar.

Amid the ongoing boycott of state sponsored programme ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ by contractual teachers, the Education Department had sought police help for smooth conduct of the session-end tests.

Contractual teachers were boycotting the initiative, demanding over regularisation on the full pay scale.

Protesting teachers said the deployment of police in schools had created a scary environment. Teachers said the use of police force in the schools has instilled fear among schoolchildren. — TNS
