Hamirpur, October 16
The Hamirpur DC today ordered an inquiry against the October 11 police action during a protest following the death of a woman at a private hospital near here.
Protesters had blocked the Hamirpur-Kangra National Highway after Amita, a school teacher, had died at a hospital allegedly due to medical negligence. She was admitted to the hospital for a tumour operation but was referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, the next day after some complications. However, doctors at the Tanda hospital declared Amita dead on arrival. Her relatives alleged that Amita had died at the private hospital and was referred to the Tanda hospital to mislead them.
Besides action against the hospital staff, they demanded action against the police alleging misbehaviour. They alleged that the police had failed to handle the situation.
Amita’s husband Arun Kumar alleged that the police had tried to stop them from reaching Hamirpur from their village, Nalti, with her body and threatened people too.
DC Harikesh Meena said: “Additional DC Rattan Gautam will probe the matter and submit a report within three days.”
