Take strict action against arsonists, says Governor

Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday reviewed the law and order situation in the state in the aftermath of a terror attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama district.

Chairing a high-level meeting at Raj Bhawan, the Governor directed the police to take strict action against those indulging in violence, arson or rumour-mongering irrespective of political and religious affiliations.

Hereviewed the situation regarding the condition of students in universities and colleges across the country. He was informed that liaison officers were coordinating with university authorities and local police to ensure the safety of students.

“Some minor developments happened at Baba Farid Institute of Technology, Dehradun, Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Ambala, and Chitkara University, Baddi,” an official spokesperson said, adding, “In all three places, the liaison officers worked with the Deans and Vice Chancellors to ensure the safety of J&K students”.

Malik was informed that the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, held a peace committee meeting in Jammu on Friday. In the meeting, all parties unanimously condemned the unfortunate incidents in Jammu city.

He asked all political parties to appeal to people to maintain peace and harmony. He said normalcy had been restored in Jammuand it should be our collective endeavour to maintain it.
