Chandigarh, December 29
In view of the prevailing foggy weather in the state, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has issued directions to adopt a multipronged strategy to bring down road accidents in the state.
The CM has asked all agencies, including the police, transport and Public Works Department to work together and save precious lives.
The number of road accidents rises due to low visibility and dense fog as soon as the winter season arrives. Keeping this in view, DGP BS Sandhu has issued directions to all commissioners of police and districts superintendents of police to ensure safe road travel in the morning and evening in the interest of commuters. He also urged people to drive carefully for their own safety.
It has also been directed to nominate an official of the level of DSP/ACP as a nodal officer in every district to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the foggy season. It should be ensured that commuters on the national and state highways and other roads do not face traffic jams on account of accidents, broken vehicles and parking on roads, the policemen were told.
