A symposium on ‘Challenges to Youth Going Overseas’ was organised by the district administration at Guru Nanak Dev University here on Friday. The youngsters were informed about the right way to migrate aboard.

People from different constituencies, students of professional colleges, principals were called to have a direct interaction with Canadian and British officials.

Christopher Kerr, Minister, Migration, Government of Canada, Canada High Commission, New Delhi, said, “One should only migrate to Canada through a correct channel. One can visit our website www.cic.gc.ca for more details.”

“For the visa purpose we have opened our centres in Jalandhar and Chandigarh,” he added.

Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, Deputy Commissioner, said,” The idea of the event is to allow people directly meet right authorities and process correct information. Do not fall at the hands of fraudsters promising an easy and quick migration.”

Kevin Terry, programme manager (migration), Canada High Commission, Chandigarh, said,” The youth must choose a certified path as illegal manner can put them in a fix”.

Ritika C Parruck, assistant director programme, north India, British Council Division, New Delhi, said ,” One should invest their energy to know about their area of interest before applying. Make sure one is aware of their potentials.”

Among prominent present included, Sandeep Singh Kaura and Ravinder Singh.
