Though the Municipal Corporation (MC) is making preparations for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2019, a BJP leader has blamed the civic body for not providing new brooms, phenyl and other required equipment to safai karamcharis for sanitary work in different wards of the city.
“The MC has not been able to arrange new brooms and phenyl for a long time. Other required equipment and products are also unavailable at the MC store,” alleged Parminder Mehta, district vice-president of the BJP.
“The civic body is least bothered to ensure sanitation in various areas of the city. Sweepers told us that they are not being provided brooms. They are forced to collect money to purchase new brooms and sticks to do their work,” he added.
“Dirty toilets of the MC depict the real situation. It seems they don’t have floor and toilet cleaners due to poor financial condition,” he said.
On the other hand, Municipal Corporation health officer, Dr Vipul Malhotra, denied allegations levelled by the BJP leader. “Brooms, cleaner, phenyl and other required material and equipment is available at the Municipal Corporation store. The allegations are completely false,” said Malhotra.
