Ludhiana, August 20

The Municipal Corporation will organise ‘Teeyan De Mele’ under Swachh Bharat Mission at Nehru Rose Garden on August 24.

During the programme, the MC plans to create awareness on cleanliness in the city. The participants and visitors would be encouraged to keep their surrounding neat and clean.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said the civic body would create awareness on cleanliness. “Some NGOs have extended their support to organise the mela. It is expected that a large number of women will participate in the event,” the Mayor said.

“An NGO has also sponsored a food stall for the event. Mehndi will be applied on the hands of the participants and they will be encouraged to maintain cleanliness. We are hopeful that our city will improve on its ranking in Swachh Survekshan-2019. We appeal to the women to participate in the function,” he said.

To invite residents’ participation, the MC has displayed advertisements (with photos of Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and Commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar) at the unipoles in various areas of the city. The programme would start at 3pm as per the advertisements.

Ludhiana ranked 137th in the Swachh Survekshan-2018 and 140th in 2017. The Swachh Surverkshan would be carried out in January 2019. As the MC aims to improve its rank, Ludhiana MC Commissioner Kanwalpreet Brar has already given instructions to the staff concerned to pull up their socks for the Swachh Survekshan-2019, an official said.
