Bathinda, January 3

This year it seems to be a tough task for the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) to score well in Swachta Survey 2019 as JITF, which process the garbage and runs the solid waste management plant in the city, has already given the termination notice that they would leave the work by January 19.

Moreover, there are high marks for the solid waste plant and disposal of the garbage as well in the survey, this year it seems that the MCB may lose marks on this front as earlier the solid waste plant was the one which put Bathinda ahead of other cities in the survey.

Bathinda is having an additional burden this year of retaining its first rank in the city, which it bagged last year by leaving behind Mohali.

It is pertinent to mention that last month, JITF company, which was running the solid waste management plant, has given a termination notice to the MCB stating that it would stop the operation on January 19.

For a long time, JITF officials have been claiming that the MCB was not adhering to the NGT decision as it was not providing 500 tonnes of garbage at its doorstep from the city and 18 adjoining municipal councils. Even the JITF and the MCB have a dispute regarding the tipping fees.

The MCB is also exploring a legal opinion on the issue and is planning to sue the company for not adhering to the agreement signed between the two before starting the project.

Moreover, even the sanitation condition at the ground well is not up to the mark and even most municipal councillors had raised this question in the recently held general house meeting. After swinging into action, the MCB Commissioner and officials have distributed the ward wise deployment list of sanitation workers to the municipal councillors.

Moreover, even the MCB has failed to abolish the secondary points from the city till date and even the garbage is also lying scattered at various areas in the city and has been not lifted properly.
