Srinagar, February 17

A CRPF constable (45) from UP shudders when he recalls the Pulwama incident in which a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into their convoy at Lethpora. He gets flashbacks of the flames and smoke. The screams echo in his ear and the gory scenes of blood and body parts replay before his eyes.

The constable was part of the convoy which came under attack. The vehicle he was travelling in had stopped at Qazigund for a few minutes, leaving them behind in the convoy.

“If we had not halted for a few minutes, we would have been dead as we were initially moving behind the bus which came under attack. As the convoy reached  Lethpora, there was a huge explosion. Hell broke loose as flames and smoke filled the air,” the constable said. “Initially we thought it was an IED. We were told to stay in the bus. When we got down from the bus after some time, there was mayhem. We were shifted to a nearby camp.”

The CRPF convoy of 78 vehicles, which came under attack, was carrying over 2,500 men from Jammu to Srinagar. TNS
