The last spell of the monsoon rains has brought relief for Sukhna Lake as the water level reached its highest level today. It was recorded at 1,162.20 feet, a few inches below the danger mark of 1,163 feet.
Mukesh Anand, Special Secretary of the Engineering Department, said: “We are constantly watching the water level. If the water level crosses the danger mark, then the gates will be opened”.
The Administration has also informed neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana about the situation. The gates were open last time in 2008 when the water level crossed the 1,163-mark.
Anand said with the water level reaching to the maximum, the lake will not have water shortage next year.
