Bathinda, July 11

Members of the Punjab Subordinate Services’ Federation staged a protest outside the Sewerage Board office here on Thursday. The protesting members were demanding regularisation of the services of contractual and outsourced employees.

They said these employees had have been working for the past many years. The members said they should be brought directly under the ambit of the government department.

They alleged that the state government had failed to deliver its promises and contractual and outsourcing workers did not get regular jobs.

They added that “evasive attitude” of government officials would not be tolerated.

Sukhmandar Singh Dhaliwal, president of the federation, said, “We demand that all contractual workers working in different government departments must be regularised and brought under the ambit of the government department directly. Anganwadi workers, helpers, mid-day meal workers and ASHA workers are getting exploited. We also demand that the contributory pension scheme must be abolished and old pension scheme should be revived.”

Dahliwal added, “Employees of the Punjab Water Resources Management must get all benefits announced by the Union Cabinet. Besides, recommendations of the seventh pay commission must be implemented.”

Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum of demands to the Chief Minister through the Tehsildar. They said if the government did not fulfil their pending demands, the federation would hold a district-level protest intensify their stir in future.
