Calling a mathematics teacher everything from an inspiration to a father figure, hundreds of students of Sanskriti KMV School have come up in support of Naresh Kumar, who has been booked in Tanvi Mehta’s suicide case.
Students have made a Facebook page ‘We Stand For Naresh Sir’ in his defense and have been posting comments and statuses demanding his release from the police custody.
Terming the allegations of the deceased (Tanvi Mehta) merely her frustration for mathematics, students posted comments on social media, calling Naresh Kumar innocent.
They said the teacher would scold students if they secure less marks or misbehave at the classes.
Over 800 students have joined the Facebook page within three days, while some of the students also said they were working on a petition to circulate. Gurleen Kaur, a student said: “It’s been over six years that Naresh Kumar has been teaching at the school and there is no complaint against him.”
“Sir is hard working and a humble teacher. He scolds students only when they are wrong and never been rude to anyone in the class,” she added.
Another student, Shivam, said: “We demand justice for our teacher and are with him. He had always been helpful and never interfered in any of the students’ personal life”. It’s impossible to believe that he could ever had any involvement in the case.”
While talking to The Tribune, Vanita, wife of Naresh Kumar said: “We have no idea why the girl in her suicide note blamed my husband. As teacher it’s his responsibility to scold students if they are wrong, in order to show them the right path.”
She said If the girl was really going through a mental torture why didn’t she share the things with her parents or complain to the principal.
On being asked what legal step is being taken by the family, Vanita said: “My husband is in 14 days judicial custody, the police are investigating the matter but the case should be studied from both sides and our justifications should be given due respect.”
