Students, cops create awareness on green Diwali

Doraha Public School, in its endeavour to conserve environment, briefed students on celebrating green Diwali. The day began with students taking an oath to celebrate green Diwali and going green.

Students participated in fun-filled activities, including poster-making, rangoli, creative writing, origami, earthern lamp and candle-decoration contest among others.

School chairman Sukhpal Singh and director Tapvir Singh encouraged students to be sensitive towards nature and overcome evil with good. Tiny tots participated in various activities, including diya decoration, colouring and candle making. Later, students also paid a visit to Government Primary school, Doraha, and shared their joy with students.

Sacred Heart School, Sahnewal

Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School conducted a special assembly session to make students aware of the pollution and damage caused by bursting crackers on Diwali.

The event was inaugurated by Principal Sr Crispin Maria by lighting diyas followed by a prayer service. The bright glow of pious flame of diyas and beautiful rangolis gave a festive look. All the activities evolved around the theme “Celebrate eco-friendly Diwali”.

The principal shared the guidelines to celebrate a green, safe and peaceful Diwali. The cultural items and speeches by presented by students added colour to the day. Students took the pledge to observe a green and eco-friendly Diwali.

Green Grove School

Green Grovians celebrated an eco-friendly Diwali with an objective to save the environment. Guranshveer, Giriraj, Taranveer, Muskanjot and Manmeet gave speech to spread awareness of masses regarding green Diwali.

The students stressed to refrain from bursting crackers and plant more trees and light earthen lamps. The students participated with great enthusiasm in a cultural festival and left the audience awestruck.

The event was presided over by president JPS Jolly, who was accompanied by Satinderjeet Kaur Jolly and Principal Suzy George.

Melodious songs were sung by students on importance of “Cracker free Diwali”.

To encourage students to grow more trees JPS stressed to minimise use of crackers.

Guru Nanak Model School

A special assembly session was organised to mark green Diwali at GN Model School, Doraha.

Akshara of Class VI threw light on the importance of this festival and inspired students to avoid eating sweets made up of artificial colours. She encouraged them to celebrate a safe and eco-friendly Diwali. A song “Deepawali manayi suhani” captivated the attention of all.

A wide range of activities were held for students, including inter-house diya decoration and pot decoration competition. Inter- House thali decoration contest was also held for Class IX and X students. Girls of Class XI and XII made beatufiul rangolis.

Senior vice president Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, vice president Harpratap Singh Brar, manager Adarshpal Bector, Pavittarpal Singh Pangli, Roopinder Kaur Brar and Ravinder Singh among others were also present on the occasion.

School Principal DP Thakur said, “We should celebrate safe and pollution free diwali. As a result, we can contribute in saving environment.”

Cops celebrate green Diwali at Khamano

The police officials led by Sub-Inspector Kulwant Singh celebrated green Diwali in the police station Khamano by planting saplings. Kulwant said, “We want to give a message to people, especially youngsters to observe green Diwali every year and not to burst crakers to curb environment pollution.”

Policemen said bursting crackers leads to health issues and was sheer wastage of hard earned money. ASI Taranjit Singh and ASI Jastejpal Singh among others also pledged to observe green Diwali.
