Students of the BBK DAV College for Women have expressed their anguish over the sudden hike in parking fee. The fee has been increased from Rs 600 to Rs 1,200 per annum.
A group of students has written a letter to the administration seeking revision in the charges of the parking lot, but to no avail. “If the college was planning to do the same, they must have done it in a phased manner. The college management is not allowing students, who have not paid the fee to park their vehicles. There are approximately 1,500 two-wheelers being parked inside the complex,” said students.
A student, seeking anonymity, said, “I have not paid the parking fee, so I am forced to park my two-wheeler at the Lawrence Road outside the college. Policemen also are not allowing us to park our vehicles.”
“It costs Rs 1,200 to park my scooter. This amount is too much for a student. Me and my classmates faced issues this morning, when the policemen did not allow us to park our vehicle. The college is increasing the fee for such a basic facility,” said another student.
When contacted,Dr Pushpinder Walia, Principal, BBK DAV College for Women, said, “The fee hike was mentioned in the prospectus. The fee hike is right of the institute as we are giving world-class infrastructure to our students.”
