Mohali: The Department of Psychiatry at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, held an event to create awareness about mental health issues at a mall here. A street play was enacted by members of the team to showcase everyday situations when mental health may be affected in some way or the other. An array of situations was portrayed using humour and drama to bring to light various mental health disorders, social stigma and myths associated with mental health. In a simple way, it was also displayed how compassionate and emphatic care, along with expert advice and medication, can heal anyone with health ailments. Dr Hardeep Singh, Senior Consultant, Department of Psychiatry, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, led the team that did this event. The event was designed in line with the World Health Day theme for the year i.e. “Depression, let’s talk”. According to the WHO, depression is a common mental disorder, characterised by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that you normally enjoy, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for at least two weeks. 162 donate blood

Chandigarh: Religion teaches us love and service to humanity and there cannot be a better service than saving someone’s life. This was the key message delivered at the organ and blood donation camp organised alongside the two-day “Samagam” of Brahmrishi Shri Kumar Swami Ji that concluded at Mela Ground, Sector 5, here, on Sunday. Leveraging the huge turnout at the “Samagam” from different parts of the nation, the Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (ROTTO), PGI, in collaboration with Shri Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust organised the camp. It witnessed an enthusiastic response with 162 people donating blood and 59 pledging organ donation at the camp. Simmi B Sumbria and Nilakshi Sharma, transplant coordinators at ROTTO, PGI, informed the public about the noble cause of organ donation and addressed their myths and misconceptions about the cause.  TNS

Man booked on rape charge

Mohali: The police booked a person for raping his subordinate on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been identified as Balwinder Kumar, a senior official of a telecom company. The victim, a resident of Shahi Majra village, alleged that her senior officer was physically exploiting her for around the last three years on pretext of marriage. The victim hails from Amritsar.  In her complaint, the victim alleged that her senior official had started living with her after making the false promise. She alleged that when she asked him for marriage in December last year, he thrashed and threatened her. She further alleged that she had approached the police, following which the accused gave in writing to the police that he would marry her. The family of the accused was also aware of the matter, alleged the victim. The police said the accused has resigned from his company and was at large.  A case in this connection has been registered under Section 376 of the IPC against the accused at the Phase I police station.
