Amritsar, January 16

A stray bullet hit a local resident, identified as Raghav Mishra, a resident of New Golden Avenue, when he was celebrating Lohri at his home in Dhingra Complex here on Sunday.

He was flying kite on the rooftop when he felt hit on his foot by some object and started bleeding profusely. He was admitted to a private hospital where doctors took out a bullet from his foot.

The police have registered a case under Sections 336, 324 IPC and 25, 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against an unknown person. The police said further investigation was under way.

Daljit Singh, investigating officer, said due to high decibel music being played on the rooftops of nearby houses amid Lohri celebrations, neither the victim nor anyone else saw or heard any gunshot nearby. He said it appeared that someone made a celebratory fire in the air, resulting in the mishap. “We are investigating the incident to zero in on the suspect,” he added.

In the past, similar incidents have been reported but none could be traced.
