Sting ops to check sex determination

The Uttarakhand Department of Health and Medical with the help of the district administration will soon conduct sting operations on clinics across the state to check the menace of sex determination.

According to Dr Saroj Naithani, state nodal officer of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act,  the sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 year has witnessed a sharp decline. In view of this, the department has decided to keep tabs on clinics across the state. 

“We have directed district medical officers to remain vigilant and conduct impromptu checks and sting operations  with the help of the district administration,” she said.

The PCPNDT cell has also  instructed district medical officers to conduct awareness camps in villages. The department is mulling roping in ASHA, ANM and other health workers for carrying out sting operations. 

It is also planning to strengthen the PCPNDT cell by appointing vigilance and  legal officers.
