Stench tests nerves of traders

Illegal vendors, encroachment and stench from the Meat market, among others, has been ailing Sector 21-C market.

Radhey Lal Bajaj, general secretary, Market Welfare Association said, “Sanitation condition is worst. The High Court directed the administration to remove illegal mechanics from the market. However, mechanics are still carrying out their business.”

He said, “Foul smell emanating from the Meat market was intolerable. Despite the ban, animals are slaughtered in the market.”

Navin Gupta, president, Market Welfare Association said, “There is no check on illegal vendors in the market. Smell from the Meat market is unbearable. The Meat market also leads to blockage of the sewerage.” Sandeep Kathuria, a trader said the mechanics have encroached upon all over the market and were carrying out business outside the ATMs and other shops. 

RM Talwar, another trader said the market was also facing issue of illegal vendors. He said the Municipal Corporation’s decision to allow more vendors in the market would add to chaos. He said the site earmarked for vendors is a passage from where residents come to the market. 

Talwar said there was a residential area behind the market which also limits parking scope. Sukhpal Singh, chairman, Market Welfare Association, said the market requires proper attention from the MC and objected to buses parked in the parking area.
