The state government hosted a state dinner in the honour of outgoing Governor Kalraj Mishra here on Friday evening.

Now appointed the Rajasthan Governor, Mishra left for Delhi today from the Raj Bhavan and will take oath on Monday.

Lauding the rich culture and traditions of Himachal Pradesh, Mishra said: “People of the state are very affectionate. Even before assuming the charge of Governor here, I had been associated with the state long ago as the BJP in-charge of the state unit of the party.”

He said the natural grandeur, geographical complexion, forest wealth and rich cultural traditions of the state attracted everybody. “I would have loved to stay here for some more time and contribute in enrichment of various sectors. But, I am satisfied that during my stint here, I got lot of affection from the people of the state and I will always cherish the memories I made here.”

Mishra expressed concern over the menace of drug addiction affecting the state youth and the need for collective efforts to cope with it. He said the authorities should work on priority to harness the tourism potential of the state.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur lauded the services of Mishra. “Though his tenure as the Governor was very short, the state benefited richly from his rich administrative experience,” the CM said.

A cultural programme, too, was presented on the occasion organised in the honour of Mishra.
