Chandigarh, February 21

The exclusive outlet of Burail Jail, where products made by inmates will be sold, will also provide a platform to showcase and sell products made by inmates of jails in neighbouring states, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

The store, named Srijan, in Sector 22 was inaugurated today by UT Adviser Manoj Parida.

The store offers a wide range of products, including sweets and cakes, furniture items, insignia and candles.

OP Mishra, IG (Prisons), said they had planned to provide an opportunity to the jail authorities of the neighboring states to sell their products through this store. “We have enough  space in the store to accommodate products made by jail inmates from different states,” the IG said.

Jail officials said the motive behind offering space to display their goods was to encourage the inmates lodged in different jails to learn new skills.

Meanwhile, the IG said the products that would be sold at the store would be of the best quality.

The officials said new products would be added to the store from time to time. “Since the festival of Holi is approaching, herbal colours will be made by the inmates, which will also be sold at the store,” one of the officials said.
