SpiceJet’s maiden flight from Dehradun reaches holy city

The daily Amritsar-Dehradun flight by SpiceJet arrived at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport here on Sunday.  

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and only Sikh MLA in his government, Harbhajan Singh Cheema, were among the prominent persons arrived in the flight. 

Later, they paid obeisance at the Golden Temple. While talking to mediapersons Rawat said to reacquire the land of Gurdwara Gian Godhdi at Haridwar, there was a need to develop unanimity.

He said majority of the Sikh populace of the hill state was satisfied with the land allotted for the gurdwara close to the previous site. He added that Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib was being conducted over their daily as per the Sikh traditions. 

He said Sikh community in his state was well off and those who were involved in farming in and around Udham Singh Nagar were released online payments in three days of the procurement of their crops. 

He anticipated that the flight would act as a bridge to cement spiritual and cultural ties between the two states.

He said Sikh history was replete with saga of sacrifice and it was his long cherished wish to pay his regards at the Golden Temple. 

The flight will leave Dehradun at 11.55 am and will arrive in Amritsar at 12.35 pm. A return flight will leave Amritsar at 12.55 pm and arrive in Dehradun at 1.35 pm. The total duration of flight will be 40 minutes. The aircraft has a capacity of 78 passengers.   

The flight will connect the holy city to the religious, wildlife, adventure and heritage, tourist circuit of Uttarakhand.  It will connect to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Hemkunt Sahib, Nainital, Ranikhet and other places.
